Visual Keys to Identifying a South American Palm Weevil Infestation
Shown above are dead Canary Islands date palms killed by R. palmarum in San Diego County, California USA. Note the “halo” of fronds around the trunk apex. A healthy Canary Islands date palm will show strong vertical central fronds which are absent in these photos. The South American Palm Weevil is shown in the bottom center and bottom right photos.
